Description
Modalert 100 mg is a lower-strength formulation of modafinil, a central nervous system wakefulness-promoting agent prescribed to treat excessive daytime sleepiness. It is commonly used in conditions such as narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (as an adjunct to primary treatments like CPAP therapy), and shift work sleep disorder.
Modafinil works by affecting certain neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly by inhibiting dopamine reuptake, which increases dopamine availability and promotes alertness. It may also influence other neurotransmitters involved in regulating the sleep–wake cycle, including norepinephrine, histamine, and orexin.
The 100 mg dose is often used as a starting dose or for individuals who require a lower maintenance strength. It is typically taken once daily in the morning, or approximately one hour before a work shift for shift work sleep disorder. The medication can help improve focus, concentration, and overall daytime alertness.
Common side effects may include headache, nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, and dry mouth. Rare but serious side effects can include severe skin reactions, allergic responses, or psychiatric symptoms. Modalert 100 mg should be used under medical supervision, especially in individuals with heart, liver, or mental health conditions.
