Description
Modvigil 200 mg is a tablet formulation of modafinil, a wakefulness-promoting agent that acts on the central nervous system. It is commonly prescribed to treat excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (as an adjunct to primary treatments such as CPAP therapy), and shift work sleep disorder.
Modafinil works by influencing certain neurotransmitters in the brain, particularly by inhibiting dopamine reuptake, which increases dopamine levels and promotes alertness. It may also affect other neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, histamine, and orexin, all of which play roles in maintaining wakefulness and cognitive function.
Modvigil 200 mg is typically taken once daily, usually in the morning, or approximately one hour before a work shift in cases of shift work sleep disorder. The effects can last for several hours, helping improve focus, alertness, and mental performance throughout the day.
Common side effects may include headache, nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, and dry mouth. Rare but serious side effects can include severe skin reactions, allergic reactions, or psychiatric symptoms. Although modafinil has a lower potential for abuse compared to traditional stimulants, it is still a prescription medication and should be used under medical supervision, especially in individuals with heart, liver, or mental health conditions.
